Decorating Derby

In what was an otherwise uneventful weekend, I moved on to our next house project, which is to paint our bedroom. Everyone that walks in to our room, always pays compliment to the color. I remember loving it too, because coincidentally, it went perfectly with our Pottery Barn duvet cover. Not to mention, the color reminds me of wine which is something that quite frankly, we have WAY too much of (hmmm...wheels are spinning for a future post)!

I love the color, but after 4 1/2 years and a couple of remodel projects later, it's time to get rid of remnants of what once was our rental. Granted, there are some things in my home that I like that the former owner installed, otherwise we wouldn't have rented (or bought) in the first place!

There is something to be said for making a home your own and I think we've done a tremendous job so far (next summer is 1 of 2 bathrooms)! The second reason I want to paint a new color is that because the wine color is so dark, it always feels like we are closed in.

Here's what our bedroom looks like now:

If you haven't been to our house, the bedroom is located at the front of the house. If you are looking head on at our house, we have two french doors. No, this is not the living room, it's our bedroom! And I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have any peeping toms scoping out my bedroom, so our shades are always down. I do intend to get some shades that go from  the top down just to let light in, but for now, the room is dark for this reason.

Part of the room is primed and we are painting the color on the right:

I'll take pictures of the final product, the color is Sky's the Limit, by Kelley Moore. I hope it turns out okay, they say that blue in a bedroom is supposed to be restful, and that's what I'm going for!

Just when I thought I'd only be decorating walls, Kieran heard our next door neighbor talking about making cupcakes. Since Pinkalicious (yes, this is Anna's book, but it's a cute story) is one of Kieran's top picks right now, I told him that we could make cupcakes.

If Kieran had his way, all he'd ever drink is milk, all he'd ever eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is pancakes, and all he'd ever eat for dessert is, you guessed it-cupcakes.

With a mouthful of grilled cheese sandwich, Kieran announced to me that he had eaten it all, and was now ready for his cupcake. I think with the combination of not napping today, and the anticipation of eating the cupcakes, a few licks of frosting and one bite (that's it!) of cupcake later, Kieran declared that he was tired and going to take a nap. At least he was in bed by 7:30, reading what else?

So, from paint to frosting, it's been a colorful weekend. If you know me well, you know that I can cook about as well as my mom's sense of direction (fill in any synonym for horrible), but I can bake and I make one damned good cupcake

(compliments from Chef Erik P. himself)! Here's to hoping my room turns out as good as my Pinkalicious cupcakes!

10 on tuesday

1. Anna picked up a stacking toy today (which happened to be in the shape of a star), walked over to Weezie (our day care provider for those who don't know), showed her the shape and began to sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
2. Anna is a squirmy worm when I change her diaper. After getting out of the bath, I proceeded to count as a distraction. "One, two, three", I said. Anna replies, "Tres."
What? I try again, only this time I say, "Uno, Dos...". She responds, "Tres". Get out!

Thanks, Dora!
3. Kieran is out back watering-the flowers, the cement, the sliding glass door, his shoes, pretty much everything. I turn off the water without his knowing. I then see him inspecting the hose trying to figure out why the water has stopped. He runs in to tell me, "Mommy! The hose needs more batteries!". Well, that's just plain cute.
4. Today was the first day of school for the kids and I am secretly loving my new hours of 9-2pm. I have the best of both worlds!
5. This school year marks my 8th year as a school counselor.
6. Kieran is having a great time at preschool and will begin 3 days a week starting next week!
7.  It's amazing what new clothes (and hopefully a pedicure tomorrow) will do to boost morale. I love Banana Republic and Ann Taylor!
8. I have been going to bed entirely too late for the last several weeks and I think it's because I have too much on my mind.
9. I am eagerly awaiting September 24th (when I can tease my brother-in-law for being "old", which is absolutely secondary). No, the real reason I am excited for this date?

Boo for not bringing back George O'Malley (T.R. Knight)!
10. 10 things are really hard to think of when you are really tired, which is why I need to go to sleep!

thankful

This weekend was the last weekend before the school year officially starts. We didn't do anything exciting, we didn't travel anywhere, we weren't rushing from one place to the next.
Unlike most weekends where we have places to be, people to see and things to do, this weekend was spent at home, in our cozy little house. I love that my kids love to be outside. They don't need much to keep them happy, mostly just blue sky and fresh air.

Anna and I spent some quality time together outside watering the plants. Most of the time, there isn't even water in her watering can, but she still has fun doing it anyway.

Meanwhile, I couldn't help but capture this moment of Kieran and Erik...
which reminded me immediately of this... Can somebody please tell me who stole the time so that I can have it back?
Anyway, Kieran and Anna have been having a blast playing with our neighbors, who range in age from 3rd to 6th grade. They are so good with both of them, racing their scooters up and down the sidewalk, playing hide and go seek in inner tubes and coloring with sidewalk chalk.

While I was helping my friends to house hunt, Anna was napping and Kieran was playing outside with the kids. He was having so much fun that he waited too long to go potty and when I arrived home, discovered that he had peed his pants. For those who are wondering, Erik was inside watching golf (at least he checked on him periodically, but apparently forgot about the potty part). Though Kieran is now potty trained (during waking hours), it didn't seem to phase him too much because he was still playing and having fun. He told me that next time he was playing he wouldn't have an accident. In any event, it was so nice to just be at home for a change, having good old fashioned, neighborhood fun. I am thankful for the town we live in, thankful for my husband, and thankful for my kids. Life is good.

1st p press

Well, here you have it. Welcome to the P. (fast forward to December-it's now a public blog, hence the "P" and not our full name) Press. After hours upon hours (really this shouldn't have taken very long, I just tend to obsess a bit), I finally figured out how to set this up!  We have a family website which I need to update since we have our own domain name, and the blog for the obvious- writing (with some pictures of course) and documenting the happenings in our lives, since my hundreds upon hundreds of sheets of scrapbooking paper sits on the shelf waiting to be used.  Not sure where all of this will go, or how long it will last, but for now I'm finally on the band wagon, courtesy of my friend Melissa. And, to calm Erik's paranoia, you are one of the "lucky" few who have access to my blog :) (again fast forward to December '09, we'll see how long I stay public!).
Goodnight, everyone!
